Bio
Sigríður Níelsdóttir released her first album in 2001, at the age of 71 (born 25. February 1930 @ Copenhagen). She had been making music all her life but never found the time to record any of it. When she finally started recording on a cassette recorder in her kitchen, playing her keyboard and any household appliances that made weird sounds, she couldn't stop and has since then been the most productive artist in Iceland. Sigríður who was born in Denmark and has Danish and German parents has been living in Iceland since 1949 and she therefore sings in Danish, German, Icelandic and even English on her albums.
Sigríður was quickly noticed in the independant music scene in Iceland as many other artists like Björk and members of Sigur Rós and Múm started to praise her music in interviews. In 2003 Slowblow used two tracks by her on their soundtrack for the film Nói Albínói.
Sigríður has always refused to perform live so in 2003 members of múm, Slowblow and a few other local musicians formed Stórsveit Sigríðar Níelsdóttur and started to perform her music live.
